As one of the events leading up to the Tokyo Marathon 2018 on Sunday, the Tokyo Marathon Family Run 2018 was held on Saturday morning February 24 at 10:00 am in the Tokyo Water Front City Symbol Promenade Park. The event is designed for a parent and a child to run together as a pair and this year approximately 1,000 pairs of 2,000 runners have participated.

Newly inaugurated wheelchair division was added to the existing groups of elementary school children divided by their age into four groups, and thus the total of five groups were formed this year.

The wheelchair group started first at 10:00 am, followed by the group of older elementary school kids led by Mr. Takashi M, Tokyo Marathon 2018 Charity Sports Legacy Ambassador. They were followed by group three and four. Finally, the youngest group of kids started as a group five. They were led by Yu Nakamura, also a Tokyo Marathon 2018 Charity Sports Legacy Ambassador, They all ran 1.5km course at the speed of their preference.
