The following is a report on the charitable projects that will receive donations for the Tokyo Marathon 2024 and how the donations will be used (tentative).
*Please note that the recipient projects are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances such as natural disasters, conflicts, suspension of activities, etc.

Tokyo Marathon Foundation Sports Legacy Program-1,-2

1)Total amount of Donations : 53,131,673 yen
Donations from the Tokyo Marathon Charity will be used to support the Diamond Athlete Program (sponsored by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations), the EDORIKU Para-Athletics Class (sponsored by Edogawa Ward) to support the Para Challenge, and the “Mini Tokyo Marathon” (sponsored by the Tokyo Marathon Foundation) to communicate the various ways to enjoy sports and its appeal.

1)Total amount of Donations : 6,699,057 yen
The funds will be distributed to the “Iwate no Gakushu HOPE Fund,” the “Great East Japan Earthquake Miyagi Children's Scholarship Fund,” and the “Great East Japan Earthquake Fukushima Children's Donation Fund” according to the number of children who are eligible for the Scholarship Program (minors). This project will continue until the orphans reach adulthood.

◆ Scholarship for Childhood Cancer Survivors
Approximately half of childhood cancer survivors face late effects (aftereffects). To ensure that those wishing to pursue higher education do not abandon their dreams due to financial reasons, we provide non-repayable scholarships to support their journey towards achieving their dreams and independence.

◆Supporting Single-Parent Households of Children with Cancer
We provide a one-time hospitalization allowance to single-parent households facing economic challenges such as loss of income due to the need to accompany their child during hospital stays and increased expenses. This assistance ensures that they do not have to forgo proper treatment due to financial constraints.

The donations will be utilized to deter human trafficking through leadership growth and strengthening the criminal justice and welfare system by supporting NGOs and the programmes in India,
(1)The programme aims at strengthening the criminal justice and welfare system for the survivors to access justice through prosecution of traffickers, access to victim compensation as well as access to government rehabilitation services.
(2)Another programme is an Action Research programme to study how survivors of human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation as children transition from survivors to leaders and grow their unique leadership (individual and collective) with diverse enabling and disabling factors, and how each trajectory is unique to its own context.

Donations through the Tokyo Marathon Charity 2024 will be used to fund construction of “dream houses,” where children with long-term illnesses can stay with their parents out of the hospital ward while still connected to the necessary medical equipment and also to maintain and operate existing facilities.

CARE International Japan supports women and girls currently facing difficulties in developing countries and conflict/disaster areas such as Ukraine. The Tokyo Toy Museum is a museum filled with the warmth of wood, using the closed school building in Shinjuku. Through toys and play, the museum has created multi-generational interaction from ages 0 to 99, enriching play, child-rearing, and living environments. The museum was designed with an emphasis on Japanese wood. The museum offers a wide variety of high-quality wooden toys from Japan and abroad, making it a place where visitors can experience the bounty of nature in abundance, even in a large city. We opened Lao Friends Hospital for Children (LFHC) in Luang Prabang (Laos) in 2015 and have treated nearly 40,000 patients last year. Many of our patients are children who require inpatient care and there is the case that it takes a quite long time to complete the treatment. So that the cost of inpatient department is one of the highest one. Donations we have received through the Tokyo Marathon 2024, we will put them to work for those hospitalized children at LFHC in Laos.

Amnesty International investigate human rights violations occurring worldwide and engage in activities such as issuing reports and make policy recommendations based on our report. In 2023, the outbreak of the Israeli invasion of the Palestinian Gaza Strip resulted in dire conditions for civilians and the loss of many lives. We reviewed evidence such as photographs, videos, and satellite images to gather evidence of war crimes and serious human rights violations, submitting them to the United Nations Human Rights Council and the International Criminal Court. Furthermore, we conducted advocacy campaigns worldwide calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and urged the Japanese government to actively engage with all parties to the conflict towards achieving a ceasefire.

JOICFP will construct a clinic that provides health services in rural communities to protect women’s lives and health in Ghana and also build a well to ensure clean water for the clinic in Upper Manya Krobo District, Eastern Region, Republic of Ghana. We will partner with local networks, such as healthcare workers, local leaders, and residents and deliver Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) information and services to as many residents as possible. By improving the environment of pregnant women and women with fundamental preventive measures, JOICFP aims to create a society where no women will lose their lives due to pregnancy, delivery, unsafe abortion, or cervical cancer.
