Tokyo Marathon Family Run 2019, part of the Pre-Race Festa for Tokyo Marathon 2019, was held at a special running course in the Symbol Promenade Park in Odaiba on Saturday, March 2. The fun run is designed for elementary school children to run with a parent as a pair, to experience the joy of running. This year, 814 pairs of 1,628 runners participated.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Shizuo ITO, President/CEO of Tokyo Marathon Foundation made the opening remarks. This was followed by words of encouragement from guest runners Mr. Takashi M and Ms. Yu Nakamura (Tokyo Marathon Foundation Sports Legacy Program Charity Ambassadors), and Ms. Yoshimi Ozaki (advisor for the women's track and field club at Dai-ichi Life Group). Everyone then warmed up together with the Japanese "Radio" exercises.
The wheelchair group kicked off the fun run. Everyone put in their best effort as they made their way up the first gentle slope. They were followed by groups of students divided by grade level, with the younger group (grade 1-3) running about 1.4 km and the older group (grade 4-6) running about 2.0 km.
The weather was beautiful, the perfect day for running. Guest runners took part as well, and everyone seemed to be enjoying the day.
